The Gua Sha Routine Every Woman Needs for Radiant Skin and Relaxation
If you’ve got a gua sha and aren’t sure how to use it, you’re in the right place! In just a few minutes, you can learn how to release tension, improve mobility, and enhance lymphatic flow with this easy step-by-step routine.
As a fascia specialist, I’ve helped countless clients restore and sculpt their bodies from head to toe—this includes lifting and sculpting the face while promoting relaxation and health. Discover how to maximize the benefits of your gua sha tool and achieve glowing, youthful skin!
Step 1: Activate Your Lymphatic System
Begin by stimulating your lymphatic flow:
Clavicle taps: Use your fingers to gently tap the area near your collarbones 10 times.
Behind the ears: Repeat the tapping right behind your ears.
This step gets your lymphatic system ready for optimal drainage and prepares your face for sculpting.
Step 2: Work on Your Chest and Neck
Using your gua sha, follow these motions:
Chest strokes: Hold the gua sha flat and gently rub it across your chest. Switch hands to cover both sides. This releases tension in the area.
Neck strokes: Use the curved edge of your gua sha to go up the center of your neck, bringing it down the sides. Focus on areas like the sternocleidomastoid (the long muscle running down the side of your neck) and your scalene muscles. These areas often hold tightness.
Step 3: Back of the Neck and Occipital Ridge
Flip to the back of your neck:
Use the gua sha to glide from your occipital ridge (the base of your skull) down to your traps.
If you carry tension here, take your time and apply gentle pressure.
Step 4: Jawline and Cheekbone Sculpting
Jawline: Place your jawline between the flat edges of the gua sha and glide it back toward your ears. Repeat six times on each side.
Cheekbones: Use the flat edge to sweep along your cheekbone, starting near your nose and moving outward. Sculpt upwards and bring toxins to the lymph ducts near your ears and clavicle.
Step 5: Under Eye and Eyebrow Tension Relief
Under the eyes: Gently glide the gua sha under your eye, using light pressure. Make sure your skin is well-oiled to prevent pulling.
Eyebrow sculpting: Sweep the gua sha along your brow bone, following the shape of your eyebrow. If you feel tension or “crunchy” spots, pause and work slowly until it releases.
Step 6: Forehead Lines and Hair Stimulation
Forehead: For stubborn lines (like the "elevens"), use the corner of the gua sha to scrub gently in small circular motions.
Scalp massage: Grab sections of your hair, pull gently, and make circular motions with your fingertips to stimulate circulation and release tension.
Tips for Best Results
Use this routine twice a week to maintain healthy fascia, improve lymphatic drainage, and lift your features.
Always apply a facial oil before using your gua sha to avoid dragging your skin.
Listen to your body—if you feel tension in certain areas, spend extra time there.
Why Gua Sha Works for Radiant Skin
Fascia is the connective tissue beneath your skin that can hold tension and restrict mobility. By using a gua sha, you can:
Release tension in the fascia.
Increase circulation for a natural glow.
Promote lymphatic drainage, leaving your face and body sculpted, lifted, and refreshed.
Regular use of a gua sha tool not only enhances your skin’s appearance but also encourages overall relaxation and wellness.
